1984 edition

The Transat Québec Saint-Malo was launched in 1984 in keeping with the activities commemorating the 450th anniversary of the arrival of Jacques Cartier in North America. Since the time of its inception the event has won acclaim, primarily on account of the determination of its organizers to continually set - and reach - new levels of attraction and performance.

The year of its first running, the Transat was the occasion of festivities gathering thousands of people on both sides of the Atlantic. Originally conceived of as a means of creating a new network of marinas up and down the St. Lawrence and of stimulating nautical tourism in Quebec, this new sporting initiative turned into a vehicle for bringing the citizens of both continents into closer contact with each other. The Groupe TAG was the main sponsor for this inaugural edition, which crowned Loïck Caradec on Royale as champion in the multihull category and Hervé Perrin on Ville d'Antibes as single-hull victor.
